The WSO is excited to bring to you a new and improved WSWO Skills Awards Program! This program is now in its 29th year and has handed out over 60,000 awards since it began in 1975!

The WSWO Skills Awards Program provides a uniform development system for water skiers.
The program aids instructors by providing a progressive skill development framework for campers/students and gives clear achievable targets that can be reached with practice and basic instruction.

The program is available to all camps and schools and provides instructors with access to consistent, progressive and clearly designed standards for skill improvement at the novice/entry level.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Each participant will receive an 8.5” x 11” Certificate of Achievement suitable for framing. We have left room on the certificate for participants to adhere their awards, but we have a feeling these award stickers may end up on their book bags or schoolbooks instead!

By completing the list of standards in each award category, participants can earn Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in the following categories:

Basic Slalom Wakeboard Barefoot Kneeboard

With your order you will receive a Delivery kit that contains a handy Progress Chart and Delivery Notes for your instructors. You will also receive Participant Brochures that outline the awards criteria and will be used by your instructors to track each participant’s progress.

If you're interested in offering the Skill Awards Program at your Camp, Club or Ski School, contact the WSWO office to receive a Skills Awards Program Information/Order Kit.

NEW RIP 'N RIDE PROGRAM

WSWO is now supporting the Rip 'n Ride program from Waterski and Wakeboard Canada. Click the following link or read below for more information: www.ripnride.ca

Welcome to Rip 'n Ride!

Rip 'n Ride is a national grassroots program developed by Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada to encourage a greater number of Canadians to learn and enjoy the world of towed water sports. Rip 'n Ride is well suited for all ages, and especially for children aged 6 to 16. Water skiing, wakeboarding and its different activities are something that anyone can learn, and can enjoy for a lifetime of fun and fitness.

The program consists of two main elements: Rip 'n Ride initiation clinics and a progressive skill development system.

Rip 'n Ride Clinics
Initiation clinics are a very successful ways to provide a fun and exciting setting in which to share the experience with others looking to get out on the water for the first time. You receive expert instruction from a qualified Rip 'n Ride Instructor, a certificate, stickers for different levels of achievement, a cool report card, possible other prizing, and memories that will last a lifetime!

Skill Development System
Starting at the clinic and then afterwards, Rip 'n Ride is a roadmap for the different fundamental skills of any one of the variations of towed water sports:

PROGRESSION CHART >>

The program teaches you how to perform the basic skills of the sport, encourages you to try all of its variations, and to keep getting better by learning the skills of the next level up. Each level consists of 4 to 7 skills that must be successfully performed in order to "Pass" and move on to the next. More stickers and report cards help you see your progress.

Rip 'n Ride lets you move at your own pace. Regardless of whether you get on the water once a week for 8 weeks, an intense one-week camp every year, or every second weekend, it doesn't matter. You get to pick up where you left off and continue working on the current level of skills.

The beauty of being a national, standardized program is that you can pursue continued instruction towards your next level or be tested by any recognized instructor in Canada, whether you’re in Nova Scotia or British Columbia.

The name Rip 'n Ride comes from terminology often heard around the water. Because of how a ski carves or rips the water, putting off a spray, "Let's go for a rip" is a common call to get up behind the boat. And wakeboarders are known for "riding" their board.

So this summer keep a look out for a Rip 'n Ride clinic near you! And keep ripping and riding to get your next sticker!

The program has been made possible with the financial assistance of the Government of Canada, through Sport Canada's Sport Participation Development Program.
